What is the problem
Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care. In 2016, an estimated 20.4% of U.S. adults had chronic pain. Chronic pain has been linked to restricted mobility, opioid dependency, anxiety, depression, and reduced quality of life. There is significant concern about treating chronic pain by primary care physicians and the appropriate use of opioids. Proper prescribing of controlled substances is an important skill for almost any medical practice. Physicians need to have current information on timely pain control, the usage of safe opioid prescription protocols, and appropriate pain management for chronic pain.
